This Week’s Question:

What is the difference between a Tzaddik and a Chassid?

Last Week’s Question: Shofar in Elul

Why do we blow the Shofar in Elul?

Our Answer:

Numerous explanations have been given for this. The Chayei Adam states two things. Firstly, since Moshe went up to receive the second set of Luchos on Rosh Chodesh Elul, they blew the Shofar then so that no one would miscount the 40 days as they had the first time that he went up.

Secondly, the verse in Amos (3:6) states, “can one hear the sound of the Shofar and not tremble?!” Hence, Elul is a time for us to awaken to repent.
