This Week’s Question:
From where does it emerge the concept of making a Siyum, celebration, when completing a section in Torah learning?
Last Week’s Question: Tzaddik and Chassid
What is the difference between a Tzaddik and a Chassid?
Our Answer:
Although both are used interchangeably to express a great person, technically, they mean different things. One refers to someone who does what is right and the other refers to one who goes beyond the call of duty.
A Tzaddik is called so based on the word, tzedek, correct and straight. He excels at doing things exactly as they are meant to be done. The Chassid’s name stems from the word Chessed, kindness, connoting that he goes the furthest that he can in order to help others and serve Hashem fully. Hence, he is a higher level.
